Everything seems like a normal day at the rec. All of the courts are filled with people along with the bleachers. There is a lot of comotion in the air tension seems to be thick. People from other teams are yelling at eachother. Players seem to be hostile and getting up in each others faces. On the far right side of the court all of sudden there is extra loud commotion and there are people rushing from every angel. All of the shirts appeared to be fighting with the skins.the fight did not last long but for did go on was wild. It seemed to be two main people in the fight, one from the shirt side who had on a green sleeveless shirt with black shorts and white tennis shoes stood about 6'4 and was very buff and a guy from the skins side who had on blue shorts and shoes and stood about 6'2. The shirts guy seemed to have been pushing the skin around and it eventually escalated into a brawl. it seemed like the rest of the players on both teams jumped in and tried to stop the fight. Once the fight was broken up both players went to far sides of the court and eventually both of them left. After the incident the tention in the air seemed to calm down. Everyone seemed more at ease and playful. Once again more and more kids from the age range of 9-13 started to show up and met at the far side of the court for practice. the other players that were playing on either side of the courts seemed younger than all of the other days. they seemed as though they ranged from 18-21 and each were very athletic. There was not many people who came to play after the period in which i had started observing it seemed to me like today was a slow day. The same people had the same teams and played each other over and over.

Today was not like any other day at the rec. There was a basketball tournament all day. There was so much action and excitement going around i had a hard time trying to figure out what I should write. The games went like this 5 players on a team two teams on the floor at a time, half court games, play up to 15. Many of the teams were people who seemed to be good friends because they joked around with each other. The teams seemed to be very athletic and seem to be playing for a big prize. As it turns out the grand prize for the first place winner was $500 .00. Most of the teams are comprised of people of the same ethnicity. There seemed to be more black people that white. I wonder why that is? The noise in the atmosphere was louder than ever. There is a lot of more people on the sidelines cheering for the various teams playing. There are referee's who seem to be very professional. They play as though it is a real game with all the same rules unlike all of the other times that people play at the rec. As i noticed there was this certain team that dominated all of the teams. This team was made up of guys who looked like the ranged in age from 18-21 and were all very tall about 6'2 or taller and muscular built. this team did not lose one time and in the end won the $500.00. They were very entergetic. They seemed to boast up each other when one player was not doing its job. All of the teams worked hard and there was a lot of sweat. As the competition came to an end the whole crowd got very excited there was so much comotion when they announced the winning team

This is the earliest that i have ever been to the rec. Not much happens at this time the p. lace seems kind of empty. There seems to be more people running up stairs at the track then at the basketball court. there are about 10 people on the court who are male and seem to range from the age of 20-30. they seem to be practicing for some sort of tournament or basketball game.
They all seem to know their role on the basketball court very well. They run up and down the court and hit the exact mark they are suppose to be in. It seems to me that they have been practicing for a long time and are trying to get their plays down for good. Everytime the point guard comes up to the half court line they call out such plays like piston, green giant, and 4 just to name a few. Why do they name their plays these names do they have some sort of sentimental meaning behind them. They seem to have been practicing for about 2 hours because players huff up and down the court and take breaks about every 15 minutes. After about 30 minutes of me being their they seem to be running out of steam. they call it quits as a team but while others are packing up getting ready to go home, about 3 or four stay after and work on freethrow shots and lay ups. Is this something that they were assigned to do? How many do they actually have to do? Are they just doing this for fun to get practice. They guys that stay after seem to be more built that they rest and seem to have more skills. They practice for about 20 minutes then after they all pack up and conversate on the bleachers. they appear to be talking about school and work and they basketball game. One guy with green eyes brown hair and black shorts and shirt refers to the tournament next week saying "man i think we're ready, i cant wait to whoop up on the other teams." when they guys gather their things and leave their isn't much movement in the four basketball courts. about ten minutes later a few girls come in and start to run laps around the court. Why are they running laps on the court and not on the track upstairs? about every 2 minutes more girls appear and start to run laps. most of the girls run about 7 laps and being to shot around. Are they practicing for the eastern basketball team or are they just practicing for intermarials?Overall i believe that the morning time is not as excited as what goes on during the evening.

The basketball court is two sided with a curtain in the middle to divide it. Appears to be separted by skill or race of some kind. Left side is mostly African Americans and whites, and right side is mostly white and people of other nationalities. Left side seems to be very skilled players while right side the players don't seem to be as skilled. when people walk in they tend to go to the left side. Right side of the court isn't as croweded as the left side. why is that? Smaller kids seem to be ont he far side of the right handed court. Left side seems more competitive. Right side seems to play for fun. People are sitting on benches lined up waiting to play next on the left side. A guy, young adult 18-21 wearing blue shorts and shirt white shoes is sitting on bench on the right side. Seems to be tired. Right side plays up to 21 then game is over. Players clear the court and sit on benches to take a quick break. Some of the players group together on the bleacher and start talking a different language. What might they be talking about? the game? other players? All new people play the next game . They shoot for captain and first pick on teams. New teams are intergrated more than the first. Little kids walk through the door to the far side of the right court. Get dressed to play basketball. What are they practicing for? Older guy in mid 30's -40's enters rijght side of court and preceeds to walk to the far side. Disagreement in score arises they settle it by asking everyone. Player in all white with black socks and shoes and hair in pony tail seems to be captain and dominating in scoring most of the points. Is he the best on this side? More and more little kids start to arrive as it gets later. Their practice must be about to start! What teams are they on? As it grows later more people start to leave and the whole left side of the court is almost vacant. Where is everyone going? Does this usually happen on fridays? Game on the right court seems to be going slow, playing for fun. Little boys gather int he iddle of the floor in two different circles to stretch. Boy in the middle of the circle leads the stretches. One circle runs laps while the other runs suicides. Occasionally players stop mid court to all rest not everyone runs up and down the court. Are they preserving breath or is this some type of strategy? Teams seem to be dvided from smaller kids to bigger kids. Are they apart of two different teams? Gym seems to be in the shape of an oval. Walls are white with the number 1-4 painted on them in green letters. With volleyball in big letters on each side. numbers 1 and 2 are on the left side and 3 and 4 are on the right side. There are six exit doors on the right side and left side. four sets of beachers on both sides of gym.

Location: Rec Im Basketball courts
Entering the basketball court there was many people. Mostly boys a few girls, all seemed very athletic. Very loud the boys seem to get very competetive. People seem free spirited! There seem to be really no rules. Things get settled with everyones opinion. Everyone seems to get along. People seem to know each other. They make friends easily. Most dominant players seem to stay on the court the whole time. Winner stayed on the court till they lost. People pick teams at random. Everyone seemed cool with each other, other than the usual arguments and disagreements. Same players seem to stay at the court all day until it closes. A lot of yelling seems to go on but mostly in rage of the games. 5 players per team, two teams, a game of 21, points go by 1's. Some people treat the game more seriously than others. Most people seems to play to stay in shape and have something to do, Others play for competion.
